| About World Civilizations | Key WSU Libraries Guides and Resources |
The World Civilizations program consists of two courses, Gen Ed 110 - Tradition and Memory: World Civilizations to 1500 and Gen Ed 111 - Culture, Conflict and Modern World Civilizations after 1500, offered in both in-class and online forms. Each section of these courses provides a multicultural and interdisciplinary exploration of world civilizations. Although the each course is taught by scholars from across the university, each section is characterized by common readings, term projects, and exam formats. All Gen Ed 110 and most Gen Ed 111 sections have a library based research assignment. Librarians provide instructional sessions and support for this research. Students learn about accessing materials in the library and evaluating information resources. There is a special emphasis given to teaching students about dictionaries and encyclopedias, both general and specialized. The World Civilizations Web pages offer many more details about the program.
