About World Civilizations
The World Civilizations program consists of two courses, Gen Ed 110 - Tradition and Memory: World Civilizations to 1500 and Gen Ed 111 - Culture, Conflict and Modern World Civilizations after 1500, offered in both in-class and online settings. Each section of these courses provides a multicultural and interdisciplinary exploration of world civilizations. Although the each course is taught by scholars from across the university, each section is characterized by common readings, term projects, and exam formats. All GenEd 110 students take a library tutorial and quiz and all GenEd 111 students do a uniform library research assignment. Librarians provide instructional sessions and support for this research. Students learn about accessing materials in the library and evaluating information resources. The World Civilizations Web pages offer many more details about the program.
