About Freshman Seminar

Freshman Seminar is a course designed to help students understand current issues, analyze and evaluate how the issues are being addressed, propose alternative ways to address the issues, and design and produce a summary research project. The course is unique in that it is linked with a discipline specific course and is facilitated by undergraduate student peers. Since the first Freshman Seminars were offered in 1996, the WSU Libraries Faculty have provided key support concerning the development and construction of student projects. The Library Instruction Team along with a host of WSU Reference Librarians have guided students on subjects ranging from the use of the online catalog and evaluating Web sites, to copyright and citation practices on the Web. Librarians have been involved at all phases of project progression, from initial proposals to rubric-driven evaluation. The Freshman Seminar Web pages offer many more details about the program.
