WSU Library Instruction

Pathways to Academic Success Seminar (PASS)

About PASS

Pathways to Academic Success Seminar is a course designed to help students understand current issues, analyze and evaluate how the issues are being addressed, propose alternative ways to address the issues, and design and produce a summary research project. The course is unique in that it is linked with the Common Reading Program and is facilitated by graduate student facilitators. Since the first PASS Seminars (formerly called Freshman Seminar) were offered in 1996, the WSU Libraries Faculty have provided key support concerning the development and construction of student projects. The Library Instruction Department along with a host of WSU Reference Librarians have guided students on subjects ranging from the use of the online catalog and evaluating Web sites, to copyright and citation practices on the Web. Librarians have been involved at all phases of project progression, from initial proposals to rubric-driven evaluation. The PASS webpages offer many more details about the program.
