Goals
UCOLL 300 - Unit III - Introduction
After completing this tutorial, you should:
- Understand how academic study and research is organized by academic disciplines - each of which fit into one of three branches of academic study.
- Access discipline-specific databases1. Use discipline-specific database descriptors2 to focus a search and focus your research topic..
- Identify relevant, academic terminology related to your research and topic. Incorporate these new academic terms in revising your "Starting Point" topic.
1Sometimes called subject-specific databases, and do not include WSU WorldCat, Academic Search Complete, or Griffin.
2Sometimes called "subject headings" or "subject areas"
To help you, each page of the tutorial will highlight at least one of these three goals. Look for Butch at the bottom of each page for pointers that will help you reach these three goals.
