Academic Branches

UCOLL 300 - Unit III - Academic Focus

Focus your starting point topic by identifying the broad academic branch of knowledge that appeals to you. In general, you can make most any topic fit into the Social Sciences, Humanities, or Sciences.

Want an example? Think about one of our example starting point topics, "autistic children."

  • Social Sciences might look at behavioral issues, psychological issues of autistic children.
  • Humanities could look at how autistic children are portrayed in poetry, art, or theater.
  • Sciences would examine genetic or environmental causes of autism in children.
