UCOLL 300 - Unit II - Core Databases II - Next Steps

Using library databases successfully is not just about finding information. It’s also about being able to evaluate that information

In this tutorial, you learned how to use article abstracts from Academic Search Complete and JSTOR to determine whether an article is useful. You also saw how WSU WorldCat outlines the table of contents from books, and how ebooks from databases such as Sage Knowledge, Gale Virtual Reference, and eBook Collections provide table of contents, indexes, and search capabilities.

Next Steps:

  • Complete the Unit's discussion forum if you haven't already.
  • If something is unclear, be sure to bring it up for discussion in the coursespace (Angel) with the whole class.
  • If you feel you have mastered the material in Core Databases I and II, take Core Databases I and II quiz(zes) in Angel.
  • After taking the quiz, review the Core Databases and Citations Evaluation Criteria under "Lessons" in Angel. This will give you a good idea of what to expect from the upcoming graded essay assignment. The preview will prepare you to think about your "starting point topic" that you will work with for the rest of the semester.
