UCOLL 300 - Unit II - Core Databases II - Introduction

BEFORE YOU BEGIN:  We recommend that UCOLL 300 students first participate in the Unit 1 discussion forum, before proceeding to this tutorial.

In the tutorial Core Databases I, you learned all about citations, and how citations look in our “core databases.” But of course, not too many people use databases just to get citations. Ultimately, you want to select the best resources for your research. Between accessing citations and deciding which resource to include in your research, there is a process of evaluation that needs to take place.

In this tutorial, we will learn some tips on how you can evaluate the sources you find in the core databases.

Most databases, in addition providing citations, will have abstract, summary or content notes that will give you a better idea of how the resource’s topic is covered in the source.

This tutorial will cover how to access these abstracts and content notes.

(At the end of the tutorial are instructions on how to get the actual resource – book or article. However, you are not required to access any resources until Unit II.)
