When you yearn for a really big body of water, something you can put a boat in, you can head for Wawawai Landing (pronounced "wuh-WY"), on the Snake River. This is where the WSU women's rowing crew puts their racing sculls in the water. Go west out of town on the highway to Colfax, but take the left at Wawawai Road just below the Hilltop Motel. Follow the road for 17 miles to its winding end and you'll end up at the parking lot for this nice little park and picnic shelter at the landing. There's an inlet for swimming and a short hiking path. Campsites are also available.
