In the fall, all sorts of apples you'll never find in the grocery stores are available, including various "heritage" varieties. In the foreground is my favorite fruit: the golden, buff-skinned Chinese pears of the variety called "Rainier" here, but actually a Korean variety. The smooth-skinned yellow ones available in grocery stores are much less tasty.
