There are several reasons to travel to the little town of Dayton, Washington south of Pullman in the foothills of the Blue Mountains; but I don't have a picture of my favorite: the fabulous Patit Creek Restaurant which serves classic French cooking in a not terribly photogenic setting. Even though it's in "the middle of nowhere" it's a destination for many gourmets, so you need to phone ahead for reservations: (509) 382-2625.
The best route is south on South Grand out of Pullman to Lewiston, across the bridge to Clarkston on US 12 for almost 64 miles. Count on about two hours for the whole trip.
