Jay Starratt Named Dean of WSU Libraries

Jay Starratt has been named dean of the Washington State University Libraries and will begin December 1, 2007.
                   
                   
        Dr. Robert C. Bates, WSU Provost and Executive Vice President said, "I am extremely pleased that we have recruited such an experienced and talented leader as Mr. Starratt. He brings a wealth of experience including a background in information technology that will be a great asset for the faculty and staff of the libraries as they advance the development of the library system."
        Starratt comes to us from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville, where he has served as associate vice chancellor for information technology and dean of library and information services since 1996. Before joining SIUE, Starratt served as director of technical and automation services at SIU Carbondale's Morris Library. Previous professional positions include assistant director for administrative services at the University of Nebraska at Omaha's Library and assistant to the director and supervisor of circulation at Emory University Library. He has served in leadership positions on a variety of national and regional professional library groups. He was named Illinois Academic Librarian of the Year in 2002. His research interests are in the areas of technology and library cooperation.
