WSU Libraries' Atrium Music Series

Music Teachers National Association Competition Participants will be performing today in the Atrium in the Terrell Library. The concert will start at about 12:15pm.

WSU Libraries' Atrium Music Series is an informal series of concerts that takes place from 12:15 - 1:00pm most Fridays during the academic year in the Terrell Library Atrium (formerly Holland/New Library). The concerts are free of charge. Drop in for all or any part of the concert as your schedule allows. Limited seating is available. Mushkeg Media's Finding Our Talk series will be shown the last Wednesday of each month in CUB 406 from 7-8 pm. Tonight's films, Words from our Scholars, and Words from our Elders, will examine the important role that Elders play in working with Native scholars, mentoring language students, and instilling a sense of pride in the language. Everyone is invited to attend!

2008 Education Abroad Photo Contest Winners

The 2008 Education Abroad Photo Contest Winners are now on display in the Terrell exhibit case on the first floor of the Holland and Terrell library.

The annual photo contest features photos taken by WSU students who have studied abroad in various places around the world. The 2008 photo contest categories were:

1.) Cougar Pride Abroad

2.) Exploring Natural and Urban Landscapes

3.) Discovering Local Culture and International Friendships

Students also voted for their favorite photo, the Cougars Choice Award.

Atrium Display Case & Exhibits Schedule

International Women's Day

The International Center, in collaboration with the Holland and Terrell Libraries, has placed a display in the Atrium exhibit display case to celebreate International Women's Day, and to accompany a reception that will take place on Wednesday March 5th, 2008 from 12 - 1:30 pm in the Atrium. the International Center has arranged to have Prof. Marian Sciachitano of Women's Studies speak at this event. More details to follow!

Lynne Haggensen's exhibit, "Seen or Imagined"

Artist Lynne Haagensen's exhibit of prayer flags will be showing in the Terrell Atrium Nov. 26-Dec. 15, 2007. An opening reception will be held in the atrium on Sunday, Dec. 2, 12:30-1:30pm.

Neighbors Who Disappeared (Exhibit October 15 to November 21, 2007

Opening Reception November 9th, 2007 at 3 pm in commemoration of Kristallnacht, with an Opening Address to be delivered by Dr. Wes Leid, WSU Honors College.

Beginning on October 15th, 2007, The Holland and Terrell Libraries will be hosting "Neighbors who Disappeared", a traveling exhibit created by Czech youths to examine the fates of Jewish children and their families who vanished from Czech villages during World War II.

The exhibit consists of 19 mixed media panels through which the children bring to light the forgotten lives of local village inhabitants. Czech schoolchildren studied family records, archival materials, and interviewed local Holocaust survivors in conducting their research.

Originally conceived in 2000, the exhibit gives a voice to those who were murdered during the Holocaust, bringing the tragedies suffered by the Czech Jewish Settlement to light, on a highly personal level.

The exhibit will be on display in the Terrell Library Atrium, during regular library hours, from October 15th to November 21st, 2007. An Opening Reception will be held at 3 pm on Friday, November 9th, in commemoration of Kristallnacht. Dr. Wes Leid of the WSU Honors College will be speaking at this event. All are invited to attend.

The Neighbors Who Disappeared project has been conceived by the The Education and Culture Centre of the Jewish Museum in Prague, in partnership with the civic association Zapomenut/The Forgotten Ones and in collaboration with the Hidden Child organization, the Terezn Memorial and the Federation of Jewish Communities in the Czech Republic.

Atrium Exhibit - Miniature Book Society

Showing now through the end of September in the Terrell Atrium space is a traveling exhibit of over 100 miniature books from the Miniature Book Society. The display introduces award-winning designs judged to be distinguished in annual competition. Among the exhibited works are a variety of titles and authors from Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes and Tales from the Arabian Nights to The New House (David Mamet) with the front door as the front cover. Exhibit arrangements were made by Gail Siegel of Campus Involvement.

Location: Manuscript, Archives, and Special Collections, ground floor, Terrell Library. Hours 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This exhibit is curated by the students and faculty of English 492: From Manuscript to E-Book. During the fall semester (2007), we explored the methods employed in the growing interdisciplinary field of Book History for understanding the creation, marketing, reception, and preservation of texts. While people often think of rare books in terms of monetary valuethat is, how much a book might have cost to acquirewe came to discover that there are deeper and more complex ways of understanding how much a text is worth. We've designed this exhibit to help communicate what we've learned to you.
