WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES RESERVE CIRCULATION GUIDELINES FOR WSU FACULTY

The Washington State University Libraries (WSUL) provide reserve circulation services in support of all levels of instruction. The benefits of placing material on reserve are twofold: students have easy access to the material during all the hours the Libraries are open, and an element of preservation is afforded to library materials. This service is provided under the following guidelines.

  • Requests to place materials on reserve are processed in the order in which they are received.

  • Please submit requests two weeks prior to the date students will need to use the material to assure sufficient time to complete processing.

  • Priority is given to required readings for all courses. Suggested readings will be processed as time and space allow. A copy of the course syllabus/reading list should be provided with the initial group of reserve materials to help establish processing priorities.

  • A completed WSUL Reserve Request form must accompany each item to be placed on reserve. The total number of reserve items allowed in 20 per class. We are always willing to discuss our limits, so if you have a special need, please come in and discuss it with the Library staff. In accordance with national library standards, up to one copy of each reserve item per 10 students, not to exceed 10 copies total, will be accepted for reserve. However, due to space and supply constraints, the library requests one copy for every 30 students.

  • Items may also be made available through the library electronic reserves system. contact Holland Library reserve unit for further information. (509-335-5618)

  • Required textbooks generally are not put on reserve. If, however, the bookstore cannot supply enough copies for the number of students enrolled in the course, textbooks may be placed on reserve.

  • Due to heavy usage, reference and two-hour materials may not be placed on reserve.

  • Materials may be placed on reserve in the Library supporting the subject area of the course. Materials in support of classes taught over the WHETS system should be placed on reserve at each campus receiving the course.

  • Reserve materials will be returned to the faculty member at the end of each term. Information regarding the number of circulations for each item will be provided with the returned materials.

A library staff employee may contact you if there are questions about the material being placed on reserve.
