On a fine fall day we set out in quest of foliage, food, and water. We're headed for Coeur d'Alene (92 miles away); and if we have time, Lake Pend Oreille (46 miles further north). We begin by going to Moscow and heading north on Idaho State Highway 95 out of Moscow.
Or if you're not in a hurry, take the slower scenic route north of Pullman on Grand Avenue--which becomes Highway 27--past Kamiak Butte and down Palouse's main street east--it becomes Highway 272--to the junction with Highway 95, turn left onto the highway and proceed north.
Don't be fooled by the straightaways on the southern part of this trip. You'll be traveling along winding forested roads further north.
