Facilities Policies

Entering restricted areas of WSU Libraries or remaining in any library building after closing is prohibited. Library building entrances, exits, corridors, and stairwells must be kept unobstructed to allow everyone to proceed freely at all times. The use of rollerblades, skateboards, and hoverboards inside the Libraries is prohibited. Bicycles should be left outside.

Classroom Usage

The classrooms in Holland/Terrell and Owen Libraries are available only for library instruction for WSU classes, and for other instructional programs offered by the WSU Libraries. Classrooms cannot be reserved by faculty for classes without a library instruction component. Faculty should be aware that librarians are also available to teach instructional sessions outside the Libraries.

Conference/Meeting Rooms

The WSU Libraries conference/meeting rooms are reserved for library-related meetings or events.

Atrium

The Atrium can be scheduled for use by groups affiliated with WSU for events, but it cannot be rented by individuals for private events. Contact the Library Administrative Office (509.335.4558) if you have questions or want to make a request.

Digital Screen

The purpose of the digital screen is to communicate information about library services, collections, events, and news. Events include: WSU Libraries-sponsored events happening both within and outside of the Libraries, and non-library events happening within the Libraries. All slides on the digital screen must relate to WSU Libraries in one of the above-named ways.

Emergencies & Fire Alarms

Exit the building promptly if an alarm sounds or flashes. Setting off a false alarm, tampering with fire-fighting equipment, or engaging in behavior which constitutes a fire hazard is prohibited.

Lost & Found

Materials that have been found in the Libraries are turned into the Circulation Desk in the three libraries. Valuable items, such as laptops and Cougar Cards, are turned over to the WSU Campus Police immediately. Other items are held for 30 days before being disposed of or donated to charity.

Study Rooms & Huddle Stations

Anyone with a valid WSU email account can reserve a group study room or Huddle Station for up to four hours, per 24-hour period. All reservation requests must be confirmed within 30 minutes of requesting. Reservations can be confirmed or cancelled by responding to the notification email sent by the system at the time of the initial reservation request.

Furniture

To maintain a pleasant and comfortable environment, be careful not to damage the furniture. Follow posted instruction for appropriate usage of equipment and ask library staff for assistance when necessary.

Postings on Bulletin Boards

There are two designated bulletin boards in the Holland/Terrell Libraries for student organizations or individual materials; posting to walls and doors is prohibited. The Libraries reserve the right to remove any advertisements, printed material, or publicity from any part of any library building or bulletin board. Before posting or placing informational materials, posters, or handouts/brochures; please check at the Libraries’ Reference or Circulation Desk.

Security Systems

To prevent theft and vandalism, WSU Libraries employ a variety of security systems, including surveillance cameras and security gates. If a security gate is triggered upon your exit, library staff may prevent you from leaving the building and may search your personal property, such as backpacks and briefcases.

Lockers

Students directly affiliated with WSU, full- or part-time, may use our locker service. Locker use is free, and is for general use. Lockers in Holland/Terrell Libraries may be checked out for one academic semester; lockers in Owen Library may be checked out for the academic year and may be renewed. Scheduling, rules, and regulations are available at Circulation Desk in both libraries.

Pets

Under WAC 504-36-020, pets are not allowed in University buildings. Trained, registered service animals are among the exceptions. Disabled individuals may be accompanied by their service animals on all WSU campuses where members of the public or participants in services, programs, or activities are allowed to go. See WSU Access Center guidelines on Service/Emotional Support Animals for more information.
