Books Top of pageNext section

Books are located on the main floor of the library. They are arranged by Library of Congress call number. New books and the most recent journal issues are located to the left of the security gate as you enter the library.

Journals Top of pageNext section

At the Health Sciences Library, print journals are shelved alphabetically by title. Recent issues of journals (unbound) are located on the main floor across from the Circulation Desk. Older (bound) journals whose titles begin with the letter A are shelved on the main floor. Bound journal volumes with titles that begin with the letters B-Z are shelved on the lower level. Journals can be checked out at the Circulation Desk. Detailed holdings information for each title can be found in Griffin.

The Health Sciences Library maintains a list of veterinary journals indexed in MEDLINE. A version of this list is also available in MSWord format.

Many journals are available in electronic form. Consult the WSU Libraries' list of Electronic Journals for a complete listing of journals available electronically at WSU.

Library Catalogs Top of pageNext section

To find out what books and journals the library has on a particular subject, use Griffin, the WSU Libraries' online catalog. In Griffin you can search by author, title, or the subject of the book or journal. If you have questions, circulation staff or librarians will be glad to help you.

The holdings of 30 college and university libraries (including the University of Washington, OSU, and OHSU) can be searched using the SUMMIT catalog. SUMMIT is available through Griffin, and can also be searched directly by visiting the SUMMIT Catalog home page. Patrons can use SUMMIT to request books that WSU does not own. Books will be delivered to the campus library of your choice, at no cost to you! Other library catalogs ( including those of the University of Idaho and several local public libraries) are also accessible from the Other Library Catalogs page.

Databases Top of pageNext section

The WSU Libraries' Article Indexes Full-Text and More pages list electronic resources available in WSU Libraries, such as PubMed, CAB Abstracts, Web of Science, and CINAHL. Instructional handouts for most databases can be found on the Alphabetical List of Library Guides page. Most of these resources are accessible from WSU (Pullman) campus locations, or remotely (for Pullman-affiliated patrons) by using your name and WSU ID number (preceded by a zero). A WSU Libraries PIN is required to use SUMMIT to request books from other libraries, or to access your patron record online in order to renew books. To create or change your PIN, visit the WSU Libraries' Your Record/Renewals page.

In addition to the databases available through the links above, the Micromedex Healthcare Series, a comprehensive prescription drug information source, is available on several computers at the Health Sciences Library.

Interlibrary Loan Top of pageNext section

Materials (such as books and photocopies of articles) which are not owned by WSU may be obtained through Interlibrary Loan. For more information about interlibrary loan policies and fees, visit the WSU ILL Services web page.
Select the campus with which you are affiliated, and register for the ILLiad Online Interlibrary Loan Service. ILLiad allows you to place ILL requests online, sometimes even from within the database you are searching (using Find It!). You need to register only once. ILLiad will remember your delivery preferences and contact information when you log into the system to place a request.
Before placing an Interlibrary Loan request for an article or book, please be sure to check Griffin (for books or journals), SUMMIT (for books), and the list of Electronic Journals (for journals) to determine whether you can access the material right away or request the item through the catalog.

Loansome Doc (non-WSU patrons only) Top of pageNext section
Loansome Doc is the National Library of Medicine's (NLM) fee-based program that enables PubMed users to electronically order photocopies of documents. PubMed is the NLM web program that provides health professionals access via personal computer to MEDLINE and other MEDLARS databases. For more information on Loansome Doc, including costs, and to access a registration form, visit our Loansome Doc Information page. Loansome Doc is currently only available to non-WSU-affiliated customers. (WSU faculty, staff, and students should visit the WSU ILL Services page for information on obtaining materials.)

Photocopiers and Copy Cards Top of pageNext section

One photocopy machines is located on the main floor across from the Circulation Desk, and one is on the lower level near the stairway. Both machines only accept Copicards. Copicards may be charged to an IRI (WSU departmental account) if appropriate, or purchased using the card vending machine across from the Circulation Desk. The library also sells GPSA subsidized-cost Copicards to graduate and professional students. Ask at the Circulation Desk for details.
