The Holland and Terrell Libraries contain many resources for students and faculty interested in English and American Literature. Library Catalog
GRIFFIN Library Catalog. The library catalog includes holdings for all the WSU Library sites, in Pullman and across the state. Please note: Electronic journals and other 'virtual' publications are included in the catalog. GRIFFIN also provides access to SUMMIT, a consortial system that allows users to borrow books owned by all publicly supported colleges and universities in Washington State as well as a number of public and private colleges and universities in Oregon.
Indexes, Abstracts and Other Databases
- Humanities Index. Indexes humanities and arts journals and resources. Especially apt for topics that are interdisciplinary.
- Columbia Granger's World of Poetry: Indexes poetry in anthologies. Humanities Work Station (ask at the Reference Desk). Also available in print (Hol Ref PN1022 .G7).
- Iter (Medieval and Renaissance). Indexes Medieval and Renaissance scholarship in literary criticism, cultural studies and history.
- Medieval Feminist Index. Indexes journal articles pertaining to medieval women writers and issues.
- MLA Bibliography. Includes citations for over 4000 literature, languages, linguistics and folklore journal. Online from 1926- to the present. In print (Hol Ref HV7006.M64) 1921-1999.
- Oxford English Dictionary. Provides etymologies and examples of usage for English words. Especially useful for determining what possible meanings an author may have intended in a given work written at a given time. The online OED is updated on a quarterly basis.
- Readers' Guide Retrospective (1963-1982). Indexes articles, stories, and poetry published in selected periodicals and newspapers between 1963-1982. Also available in print, 1905 - present, as The Readers' Guide to Periodical Literature on the Index Tables (inquire at the Reference Desk).
- Science Fiction in Holland Library. Indexes our science fiction collection. Can be searched by author, title or call number.
- Short Story Index: Indexes short stories published in anthologies and selected periodicals between 1974 and the present. Hol Ref Z5917.S5 C6.
Reference Books

- Oxford English Dictionary. Provides etymologies and examples of usage for English words. Especially useful for determining what possible meanings an author may have intended in a given work written at a given time. The online OED is updated on a quarterly basis. - Contemporary Authors WSU Hol Ref-Table-C (several volumes). Includes biographies and lists of works written by living authors. Look for the latest article on a given author.
- Dictionary of Literary Biography Hol Ref PN451 .D52x (several volumes). Multiple volumes with cumulative indexes, it includes articles focusing on various authors, works, genres, periods and styles.

Electronic Journals
WSU Lists its electronic journal holdings in two locations. First, electronic journals can be found by searching by title in the library's catalog. References to electronic journals in the Griffin catalog have hypertext links to the electronic journal themselves or the database that contains that electronic journal. The second place to check to see if the library has a subscription to an electronic journal is on the WSU Electronic Journals list. If you cannot find a journal that you think is available at WSU, or you would like to request that we obtain access, please contact, Bob Matuozzi.
- Academic Search Complete (EBSCO). Includes searchable full text articles for newspapers, magazines, and some academic journals.
- Electronic Collections Online (ECO). Over 500 full text scholarly journals from a variety of publishers. Full text coverage depends on the journal.
- JSTOR. Full text of back issues of over 100 scholarly journals.
- Project Muse. Includes searchable full-text articles from over 90 literary criticism and cultural studies journals.
- Science Direct. Full text Elsevier science and social science journals (including linguistics).

- Literary Resources on the Net. Includes a wide array of links to information, organized by period and topic for browsing or searchable by keyword.
