Sport Studies at the WSU College of Education
The Holland and Terrell Libraries contain resources for students and faculty interested in the social science aspects of kinesiology and leisure studies. Library Resources
Library Catalogs
- GRIFFIN. Griffin, the WSU Libraries catalog, includes holdings for all WSU libraries on the Pullman campus and across the state. Please note: electronic journals and other "virtual" publications are included in the catalog.
- SUMMIT. Use Summit to search the holdings of the libraries of the six public universities in Washington state as well as colleges and universities in Oregon, and request books to be delivered to you at a WSU Libraries circulation desk within three working days. If you don't find a book you are looking for in our catalog, click on the "Search Summit" button at the top of your search results page. You can also search Summit directly through Griffin. - OCLC WorldCat. This "catalog of catalogs" includes the holdings of thousands of libraries in the United States and elsewhere. WSU-affiliated users can use InterLibrary Loan to get access to resources that you find that are not available through Griffin or Summit.
Indexes, Abstracts and Other Databases
- SportDiscus. Indexes the practical and research literature on sport, physical fitness and physical education. Covers 1975-present. Database also provides access to HERACLES, a French sports database (1975-2000) , ATLANTES, a Spanish sports database (1980-1996) and the Catalogue du Musee Olympique (1993-current).

- Article 1st and Electronic Collections Online are other good general sources to search.
- ERIC. Over 800,000 references to thousands of educational topics; Includes journal articles, books, theses, curriculi, conference papers, and standards and guidelines. Covers 1966 - present ; updated monthly.
- Education Abstracts. Full-text database of articles from English-language periodicals and yearbooks published in the U.S. and elsewhere. Subjects include administration, teaching methods and curriculum, literacy, government funding, and more. Covers 1983 - present; updated monthly.
- PsycInfo: Citations with abstracts to articles in over 2,100 psychology research journals as well as dissertations and research reports; contains full text of 50 APA journals from 1894 on. Covers 1800s - present. Print version, Psychological Abstracts, is available covering 1927-1998; see Griffin for location.
- MedLine. Includes citations and abstracts to articles in over 3400 medical journals, with some full-text links. Covers 1966-present; full citations updated weekly, with brief temporary citations (Pre-Medline) updated daily.
- General Science Index. Index to articles covering such subjects as psychology, anthropology, astronomy, biology, computers, earth sciences, medicine and health, and much more. Includes articles, reviews, biographical sketches, and letters to the editor. Covers 1984 - present; updated monthly.
- Sociological Abstracts. Citations with abstracts to articles on all aspects of sociology, social work, and other social sciences. Covers 1963-present; updated 6 times a year.
- Lexis-Nexis. Provides access to a wide range of sources, including full-text legal information and full-text and abstracted information from newspapers, magazines, company annual reports, news and business magazines, and more.
Dates of coverage vary according to source.
- Digital Dissertations (Dissertation Abstracts). Citations for U.S. (and some Canadian) dissertations 1861- present. Includes abstracts for dissertations published from 1980-present (some recent dissertations offer a 24-page preview). Also includes citations and abstracts for master's theses from 1988-present.
- Social Sciences Index 1974-current. HOLREF AI3 S632
Note: Earlier access to social sciences literature is available from the Social Sciences and Humanities Index from 1965-1974 and the International Index from 1907-1965.
