Instructions on how to obtain a Network ID and password and Network ID generation.
Wireless LAN access is available to current WSU students and current WSU employees through the use of a Network ID and password. Authentication services are used to verify current employment or enrollment.

DHCP Registration

*Information Technology in Vancouver has an excellent page of instructions for finding the physcial board (MAC) address you need to complete this registration: http://www.vancouver.wsu.edu/vis/vit/mac.html.
DHCP FAQ
Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a protocol that a PC, Macintosh, Linux host, etc... can use to automatically obtain an IP number over the network from a DHCP server. It allows users to travel to different subnets without having to manually type in a new IP number, gateway, etc... for each subnet. How is DHCP useful? DHCP is useful for laptop users who carry their laptops to different subnets on the WSU campus and attach to the network. If the user is registered in the DHCP server, the laptop will receive an appropriate IP number for that subnet. What if I want a specific IP number when I am in my office? A "static" IP address can be registered in the DHCP server for a specific subnet. This way, your laptop will always receive the same IP number when booted in your office.

VPN Software:
All customers who desire to use the wireless network are required to install VPN client software on their wireless device in order to gain access to the WSU network and the Internet. This software will provide secure access to the WSU network using data encryption.

Active Directory Account
For customers who established a network ID prior to July 1, 2003 you must also enable your Active Directory Account. Please go to http://www.wsu.edu/itroot and select "Enable Active Directory Acct." under the Student or Faculty/Staff (as is appropriate) pull down lists at the bottom of the page. Visitors who are sponsored by a WSU unit may obtain a guest account (in lieu of a network ID) for use with the Wireless LAN. Guest accounts are limited to a three day time period. Please contact Information Technology’s phone desk at (509)-335-3663 to obtain a guest account.

VPN: Virtual Private Networking service at WSU
The WSU Virtual Private Networking (VPN) Service allows exclusive access to WSU network resources for current WSU students, faculty, and staff who are at home or traveling. VPN will provide a secure and encrypted path into WSU’s network from insecure networks such as wireless access points and the public Internet. Using this service will allow you to send email using WSU’s mail servers, to access Library databases that are licensed for WSU use only, and to access all other special services that are limited to WSU users.
