Photocopying

1. Policy

A. Photocopies of resources in the collections of Washington State University Libraries may be supplied to all qualified researchers. Because of the unique and often fragile nature of many of the resources in Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections, MASC staff, at their discretion, may choose not to make photocopies of a given item in its collections. The condition of the item being considered for photocopy and the negative impact that copying might have on it supersede all other considerations in determining whether it may be copied.

B. Archival copies of theses will be photocopied to replace or supplement circulation copies in the WSU Libraries only at the request of Library Faculty.

C. The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, USC) governs the making of photocopies or other reproduction of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use", that user may be liable for copyright infringement. WSU Libraries reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order if, in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the copyright law.

D. Photocopies and other reproductions are supplied solely for the purposes of private study and scholarly research and are not to be further reproduced in part or in full, or made available to others without the express written consent of Manuscripts, Archives, and Special Collections.

2. Price Schedule

Please do not submit payment until you receive notification / instructions / invoice.

A.	OnSite photocopying (limited) for MASC patrons	$0.25/exposure
B.	Other photocopying requests
	Minimum service charge: 1-20 exposures	$10.00
	Each additional exposure	$0.50
C.	Service Charges
	Minimum processing/handling charge	$5.00 (in addition to University shipping charges)
	Rush requests and special mailing and handling might require additional charges, especially for the reproduction of rare, fragile, and oversized material, with an additional handling fee of $10.00.

Using Other Technology

1	Scanning
	Depending on the format and image size, price to be determined: from $5.00 per image (72 dpi - 1200dpi TIFF)
2	CD-ROM Burning
	Includes cost of the CD: $10.00 per CD
3	DVD Burning
	Includes the cost of the DVD: $25.00 per DVD
4	Audio Tape
	Includes the cost of the audio tape:$10.00 per tape. Handling fees apply.
5	Video Tape
	Includes cost of the VHS tape: $25.00 per tape. Handling fees apply.
6	Laser Printing
	Color printing:$1.00 per image

Self-Reproduction with camera, video or other reproduction technology

Under special circumstances, arrangements may be made with MASC staff for self-reproducing material on the premises. Limited self-reproducing may be permitted, but only when such reproducing will not compromise the integrity of the original. In all cases proper and careful handling of the materials will be required, and staff may be present to advise and assist users.

The charge for self-reproductions is $1.00 per image, excluding WSU students. Use fees, if applicable, will also be assessed. (See Use fees)

The user must label all materials resulting from self-reproduction, and assumes full responsibility for copyright infringement. Material may not be further duplicated without permission.

Reproduction and Permission Forms

Before ordering any reproductions from our collections, we require that you fill out and return a signed Reproduction Request form. All reproductions are provided for personal use only. Should you wish to publish, in any format, images, maps, correspondence, or other reproductions from our collections, you will also need to complete and return a Permission Request form. These forms can be downloaded in Microsoft Word format on in PDF below and will also be provided upon request by MASC staff.
