William Clark Family
Papers, 1740-1926
Ellen Clark (Mrs. Oliver) Ricketts deposited the William Clark family collection (77-49) in the Washington State University Libraries in November 1949. Mrs. Bernard Ricketts made an additional deposit in August 1977, and donated the collection to the Libraries. The collection was processed in August 1978 by Pat Graham Pidcock.
DESCRIPTION AND ARRANGEMENT
The William Clark family collection is arranged in three series. Series one consists of documents, correspondence, and reminiscences arranged chronologically from 1740 through 1926. Most of this series was generated by the family from three subsequent locations: (1) that portion of Massachusetts Bay Province which became Cheshire County, New Hampshire, (2) Dane County, Wisconsin, and (3) the area of Washington Territory which formed Columbia, Garfield and Whitman counties.
Six personal and business account books of William Clark and W. I. Clark, dated 1852 through 1891, comprise the second series. Series three consists of communications between members of the Clark family and the Washington State University Libraries dating 1949 through 1978.
