BIOGRAPHY

Lynn Hansen was born to Ralph and Lillian Hansen on July 5, 1958 in Provo, Utah. He received a degree in communication from De Anza Junior College in Cupertino, California, and worked in the television industry in Idaho, Alabama, and New Mexico. He was active in the underground comic scene as a critic and reviewer.

Hansen became a Beatles fan early in his life, according to his parents, and spent a great deal of time working on a manuscript on the group. A paper entitled "The Beatles without Paul," about the Paul McCartney "death hoax" (1978), showed his early interest in writing about the group. Hansen died April 9, 1995, in Roswell, New Mexico, with his manuscript still unfinished. His friend, Steve Willis, completed the editing of this work, entitled Number 9, and oversaw its distribution.

ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION

The Lynn R. Hansen Beatles Collection is comprised primarily of Beatles music and memorabilia. The sound recordings in the collection represent the work of the Beatles, along with solo and post-Beatle collaborations by members of the group. Formats include vinyl (LPs and 45 rpm singles), audio cassette, and compact disc. The collection also includes books, magazine articles, news clippings, and videocassettes containing documentary information about the Beatles, as well as research material for Hansen's Number 9, which was published posthumously. There are also some ephemeral souvenir items.

The news clippings in the collection were gathered from the local newspapers in the cities where Hansen lived: Boise, San Francisco, and Roswell, New Mexico. They are focused largely on John Lennon, especially following his death in 1980.

Material related directly to Number 9 includes Hansen's notes and several drafts of the manuscript as well as a copy of the finished work.
