ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY

The Pullman chapter of the League of Women Voters was established in the early 1950s. The organization is active in informing voters about local, state, and federal issues, and most of its records reflect this goal. From about 1975 to about 1992, the period covered in these records, chapter interest ranged from election laws to log exports to state tax laws. Prior to 1975, interest covered a similar range, and to an extent are also documented in the records.

One particularly rich sequence of papers is focused on the chapter's involvement in water quality issues related to dryland agriculture in eastern Washington in the late 1970s, when new state regulations on soil erosion were formulated.

Further detail concerning the organization can be found with the descriptive finding aid for the earlier sequence of the chapter's records, Cage 557.

ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION

Records of the Pullman Chapter of League of Women Voters consist primarily of subject files concerning various public issues. These files are made up of variety of memoranda, reports, and miscellaneous publications. Five audio tapes on similar subjects are also included.

The records, which were largely unarranged upon receipt, have been arranged alphabetically by subject. Approximately 100 topics are covered. Some topics are combined and subdivided; for example the documents relating to water quality and soil erosion are listed under the heading "water." The five audio tapes follow the subject file sequence.
