Washington Dairy Women
Records, 1980-1983

In 1982 and in 1983 Mrs. Donna Jean Simpson donated the records of the Washington Dairy Women to the Washington State University Libraries. These scrapbooks covering the years 1980-1983 complement those records of the organization from 1953-1979, maintained as Cage 433. Harvey Young arranged and described this second group.

ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY

In 1954 Dr. Albert Shaw formed the Washington Dairy Wives, which became a part of the national organization. Harriet Gross, Selma Wood, and Maxine Tibeau were the first, second, and third presidents, respectively, of Washington Dairy Wives. Article II of the Dairy Wives constitution states that "The objects of this organization are ... to create better producer-consumer relations and education and to cooperate with and assist the Washington State Dairymen's Federation wherever possible."

ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION

This collection consists of four scrapbooks recording the various activities of the Washington Dairy Women between 1980 and 1983. These activities include the selection of regional, county and state-wide dairy princesses to represent the state's dairy industry, various promotional and educational projects, and publicaton of good recipes from Washington's dairy women.
