Veterinary Medicine Oral History Project
Transcripts, 1973-1979

The Veterinary Medicine Oral Histories were transferred to the Washington State University Libraries by George A. Frykman of the Washington State University History Department on three separate occasions: September and October of 1979, (MS 79-46), November 10, 1983 (MS 83-37), and February 28, 1985 (MS 85-7). The collection was processed by Kathleen Dondanville, on March 20, 1985.

PROJECT HISTORY

Several officers in the Women's Auxiliary of the Veterinary Medical Association became interested in veterinarians' lives and biographies about the time that James Herriot published several books about a country veterinarian in the United Kingdom. They then sponsored Dr. George Frykman and Dr. Raymond Muse of the Washington State University History Department to interview veterinarians during meetings of the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association. Most interviewees were practicing veterinarians in Washington and many of them were graduates of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University.

ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION

These oral histories, conducted between 1973 and 1979, are arranged in a single alphabetical sequence. Each folder contains one or two transcripts of conversations held with veterinarians. The transcripts accessioned in 1983 and 1985 have been interfiled with those accessioned in 1979. Some of the folders contain additional notes concerning the interviewee.
