ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY

The Washington State Grape Society was founded in late 1971 by a group of individuals interested in fostering the welfare of Washington grape producers. The bulk of the records of the Society from 1971 through 1976 were deposited in the Washington State University Libraries in 1977 and were arranged and described in 1978 as Cage 178. The inventory for that group of records includes a more detailed historical sketch of the society.

ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION

The records of the Washington State Grape Society, 1972-1981, consist of the organization's business records, correspondence, and newspaper clippings. The correspondence file of the Society comprises more than half of the records and includes orders for the annual publication, business accounts (receipts and invoices), and letters to and from other grape societies. The financial records include banking materials, invoices, and billings and covers the years 1972-1981, although they bulk largest from 1977 to 1980. The collection is arranged alphabetically by subject, and chronologically within each subject.
