The Milton Monroe Mosher Papers were donated to the Washington State University Libraries in February 1979 by Professor Mosher (UA 79-7). The papers were processed by Linda Scott Lilles in June of 1980.

BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH

Milton Monroe Mosher was born on April 24, 1914 at Nanquitt, Massachusetts. He received his B.S. in 1935 and his M.S. in Forestry in 1938 from Syracuse University in New York. He began his career at Washington State University as Instructor in Forestry and Range Management in 1937. Since 1961 he held the rank of Professor of Forestry and Forest Scientist. Professor Mosher taught General Forestry, Fire Protection, Dendrology, Forest History, Forest Products, Mensuration, Policy and Administration. He set up and supervised the Professional Integration Program, a summer internship for senior Forestry majors. Participating in numerous departmental and administrative committees, he also served as Acting Chairman of the Department of Forestry and Range Management periodically from 1955 until his retirement in March 1979. Professor Mosher has been active in the Society of American Foresters since 1936. He has worked on the following committees: Membership, Program. Nominations, By-Laws, Legislation, Chapter Establishment and others. He has been an Executive Councilor since 1977. He also served on the Eastern Washington Regional Forest Practices Advisory Committee reviewing public testimony concerning the Washington State Forest Practice Act of 1974.

ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION

The Milton Monroe Mosher papers consist of a single series arranged alphabetically by subject, as per original order. The papers of Professor Mosher consist of correspondence, memoranda, committee material, reports, conference material, and ephemera relating to Professor Mosher's teaching career from 1937 to 1979 at Washington State University. The papers date from 1938 to 1979 with the bulk of the material dating from 1955 to 1979.

Major subjects in the collection are the Professional Integration Program, the Society of American Foresters, and the Washington State Forest Practices Act of 1974. The material relating to Forestry 399, the Professional Integration Program which Professor Mosher set up and directed from 1965 to 1978, includes correspondence to and from the students, course syllabi, reading lists, itineraries and interview notes. Included in the Society of American Foresters material are correspondence, committee material and directories, bylaws, and questionnaire and inventory forms dating from 1934 to 1971. The Washington State Forest Practices Act correspondence includes committee minutes, public hearing testimony, legislative drafts, and other documents dating from 1974 to 1977.
