Fedstats--A major index to publicly available statistics from more than 70 federal agencies. It includes MapStats, statistical profiles of states, counties, cities, congressional districts, or Federal judicial districts.
Statistical Abstract of the United States--Online access to the current edition and back to 1878. Annual compilation of social and economic conditions in the U.S. Most recent paper edition at the Holland Library Reference Desk and in Owen, Education, and Ag Sci reference collections; older editions in Holland and Owen federal documents collections under C 3.134: . American FactFinder--Search engine for 2000 and 1990 decennial census statistics, 2002 and 1997 economic census, Population Estimates Program, and American Community Surveys; provides tables and an interactive mapping feature.
Northwest Area Foundation Indicator Website--Tables, graphs, and maps on population, economy, health, and other topics for Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, and Iowa. Data are at the state, county, reservation, and tribe levels from federal and state data sources.
Social Sciences Data Search Engine--set up as a Google custom search this tool searches across many government data sites by keyword to bring to light datasets with codebooks on social sciences topics. Developed by Portland State University Librarian Robin Paynter.
State Rankings and Profiles: books--CQ's State Fact Finder; Rankings Across America (Hol Ref HA 214 C68x 2002) and State Rankings; A Statistical View of the 50 United States (Hol Ref HA 203 U17 2003) rank the states on topics like population, government, taxes, health, transporation, welfare, education, and revenue. State Profiles; Population and Economy of Each U.S. State (Hol Ref HA 203 S734 1999) lists demographics, household & personal income, economic structure, education, health, and government for each state.
County and City Data Book 2000 1944-2000--Population, housing, business, and other data for all U.S. counties, cities with 25,000 or more inhabitants, and places of 2,500 or more inhabitants. Paper copy from 1949 in the Holland Documents collection at C 3.134/2:C 83/2/ (most recent in Holland Reference). Historical Statistics:--Historical Statistics of the United States: Millenial Edition (WSU only) is the online version of a 5-volume reference set. Historical Statistics of the United States, Colonial Times to 1970, also in paper (Holland Reference C 3.134/2:H62 colonial times-1970), 2 vol., published by the Census Bureau; Datapedia of the U.S. 1790-2005 (Holland Reference, HA 202 K87 2001) is based on Historical Statistics of the U.S. from Colonial Times and Statistical Abstract of the U.S. and presents the most significant statistics in 23 areas.

Agricultural Statistics 1994-present online--Annual USDA data book on agricultural production, supplies, consumption, facilities, costs, and returns. National Agricultural Statistics Service--Daily commodity reports, maps & charts, publications, statistical research, and historical data.
National Resources Inventory--Natural resource data on "land cover and use, soil erosion, prime farmland soils, wetlands, habitat diversity, selected conservation practices, and related resource attributes" for non-Federal land.
USDA Economics, Statistics, and Market Information System--Reports and datasets on U.S. and international agriculture, provided by Albert R. Mann Library at Cornell University and several agencies of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Bureau of Economic Analysis--National, industry, regional, and international economic accounts producing indicators such as GDP and GDI, balance of payments, domestic and foreign investments, and personal income.
CenStats--Business, trade, and occupational information
Consumer Price Index (CPI)--"Monthly data on changes in the prices paid by urban consumers for a representative basket of goods and services."
County and City Data Book 2000 1944-2000---Population, housing, business, and other data for all U.S. counties, cities with 25,000 or more inhabitants, and places of 2,500 or more inhabitants.
County Business Patterns: 1977-present--Number of establishments, payroll, number of employees, and number of establishments for 2 digit SIC industry groupings; county, state, and national data.

Economic Indicators--Access to daily releases of key economic indicators by the Bureau of Economic Analysis and the Census Bureau
E-Stats - Measuring the Electronic Economy--Census Bureau e-commerce report on "the value of goods and services sold online whether over open networks such as the Internet, or over proprietary networks running systems such as Electronic Data Interchange (EDI)."
EDGAR Database of Corporate Information--Security Exchange Commission Filings & Forms for Public Companies
Federal Reserve Board Statistics--Releases and Historical Data; daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual economic data including commercial paper, loan charge-offs, and medium term notes
FRED--Federal Reserve Economic Data--over 20,000 U.S. economic time series in categories like exhange rates, interest rates, and U.S. financial data. FRED API is a web service that allows developers to write programs and build applications that retreive economic data from FRED and ALFRED (Archival FRED), "vintage versions" of economic data for over 19,000 series in 14 categories. Data from specific dates in history can be accessed in ALFRED; the earliest date for any series is January 1927. The St. Louis Federal Reserve also offers GEOFRED (Geographic FRED). Users can map economic data such as health insurance coverage, home vacancy rates, and civilian labor force statistics.
Data on small business activity are available from the Small Business Administration in the Academic Research on Small Businesses.
STAT-USA--Access to U.S. economic indicators through State of the Nation and to international trade data through Global Business Opportunities (GLOBUS) and National Trade Data Bank (NTDB). Emission of Greenhouse Gases in the United States--Latest estimates of emissions for carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and other greenhouse gases from the Energy Information Administration of the Dept. of Energy.

Statistical Reports of the U.S. Courts--a list of available reports covering bankruptcy, caseload, and facts & figures.
National Archive of Criminal Justice Data--sponsored by the Bureau of Justice Statistics and National Institute of Justice, this archive offers a large searchable database of publications on criminal justice research; researchers can be assisted with selection and use of files.
OPE Campus Security Statistics Website--reported criminal offenses for colleges and universities in the U.S.
Statistical Briefing Book of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention--statistics on many facets of juvenile justice. The site also provides data analysis tools, access to the Compendium of National Juvenile Justice Data Sets, and an extensive list of publications available from the agency.
Sourcebook of Criminal Statistics Online--Data on all aspects of criminal justice in the U.S. from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, updated online as new data is received. The annual paper copy is in Holland Library U.S. Docs under J 29.9/6: (most recent ed. in Holland Documents Reference).
Uniform Crime Reports--sections are Crime in the U.S., Hate Crime Statistics, Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted, and National Incident-Based Reporting System. Current and some older editions are online; search Griffin for paper copies of these reports.
Department of Defense Statistical Information-Directorate for Information Operations and Reports (DIOR). Statistics on procurement (prime contract awards), personnel, and casualties, with links to other statistical publications.

World Military Expenditures and Arms Transfers --originally published by the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, the U.S. State Dept. has made WMEAT available since 1988. It includes "annual military expenditures, arms transfers, armed forces, selected economic data, and relative indicators consisting of pertinent military-economic ratios."
American FactFinder--Interactive search engine for American Community Surveys, 2000 and 1990 census statistics, and current economic censuses
Census 2000 Briefs and Special Reports-- These two series analyze population and housing data from the 2000 census, e.g., Demographic Trends in the 20th Century, The 65 and Over Population, Overview of Race and Hispanic Origin, Population Change and Distribution 1990-2000. Metropolitan Ethnic and Racial Change (American Communities Project)--Census 2000 data on specific metropolitan areas and their respective city and suburban portions. Sponsored by Brown University and University at Albany.
U.S. Census Bureau--gateway to a wealth of statistics on demographics and economics
U.S.A Counties--current population estimates and items from the 2000 Census of Population and Housing, the 1990 census, the 1980 census, and the 2007-1977 economic censuses. Includes data from Bureau of Economic Analysis, Bureau of Labor Statistics, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Social Security Administration.
Tables and Figures for National Center for Education Statistics Data--keyword search for statistics from Education Statistics Quarterly, National Education Data Resource Center Tables, and many National Center for Education Statistics publications. The Condition of Education--guide to and analyses of basic education data for reporters and others wanting national context for local education news and conditions. Digest of Education Statistics--Compilation of government and non-government education statistics from prekindergarten through graduate school. Indicators of School Crime and Safety--monitors indicators of crime in the nation's schools and includes "...victimization, teacher injury, bullying, school conditions, fights, weapons, availability and student use of drugs and alcohol, and student perceptions of personal safety at school."
Projections of Education Statistics--Projections of enrollments, graduates, teachers, and expenditures for elementary and secondary schools and institutions of higher education. Paper copy in Holland and Education Libraries under LA210 .A28 with most recent ed. on reference.
The Nation's Report Card: Trends in Academic Progress in Reading and Mathematics 2008--results of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) long-term trend assessments in reading and mathematics. With this study educational progress since the early 1970's can be charted.
Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS)-- includes tuition rates, enrollments, admissions, race & ethnicity of students, financial aid, graduation rates, etc. Institutional data and comparison with other institutions is available.
Demographics on schools and school districts: School District Demographics System (SDDS); Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS); State Education Data Profiles (SASS); and U.S. Census Bureau: School Enrollment.
Alternative Fuels Data Center--includes Alternative and Advanced Fuels and Alternative and Advanced Vehicles in addition to Data, Analysis and Trends and other information.

TheDataWeb--A network of government data sites covering demographics, economics, health, labor, income and unemployment, crime, transportation, and other major topics. Available on the site is DataFerrett, a data mining and extraction tool that assists with selecting and coding variables for use in tables, graphs, and charts.
