| The U.S. Department of Agriculture, National Agricultural Statistics
Service (NASS), assumed responsibility for the agriculture census
with the 1997 census, the 25th Census of Agriculture. Prior to that
date it was conducted by the Census Bureau and had been taken every 10
years from 1840 to 1920 and every 5 years from 1925 to 1974. After
4-year censuses in 1978 and 1982 it was adjusted to those years ending
with 2 and 7. |
