The Census Bureau's Census 2000 page provides an overview of the 2000 Decennial Census of Population and Housing. Census 2000 Geographic Products and Information is a gateway to TIGER/Line Files, and Census 2000 Maps, Data Files and Reference Resources.

2002 TIGER/Line® Files: The 2002 TIGER/Line files contain few, if any, updates to street features or address ranges from the Census 2000 versions of the TIGER/Line files. The Census Bureau has made major changes to the structure, field definitions, and contents for the 2002 TIGER/Line files.

American FactFinder is the Census Bureau's easy access to tables and maps for 2000 and 1990 data for all geographies to the block level.

Census Watch (ESRI) is a portal to information about Census 2000 and its related activities. It is designed to provide access to up-to-date information about Census data resources, redistricting, online mapping, and education/training opportunities. The Census Watch site provides access to TIGER/Line 2000 data in shapefile format, Census 2000 Dress Rehearsal Data Sets, American Fact Finder Data Sets, and TIGER/Line 1995 shapefiles.

The Census 2000 Geography and Maps page links to definitions, information about geographic relationships, maps, and more.

The Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) has established a new web page, Census 2000 at ICPSR for information about the latest data releases from ICPSR as well as information on aggregate data and microdata, descriptions of training opportunities, announcements concerning Census 2000, and links to other Census sites. See the Holland and Terrell Libraries Data Archives page for information about WSU access to the ICPSR files.

Geography Network's Free Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line® Shapefiles: The Redistricting Census 2000 TIGER/Line files cover all counties, parishes, boroughs, census geographic areas and equivalent entities for each state, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The TIGER/Line files are a digital database of geographic features, such as roads, railroads, rivers, lakes, political boundaries, census statistical boundaries, etc. covering the entire United States. The database contains information about these features such as their location in latitude and longitude, the name, the type of feature, address ranges for most streets, the geographic relationship to other features, and other related information. They are the public products created from the Census Bureau's TIGER® (Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing) database of geographic information.

TIGER/Line 2000 include files for all counties and statistically equivalent entities in the United States. The data layers are stored in geographic coordinates expressed as decimal degrees. The coordinates in the TIGER/Line 2000 files are provided in the North American Datum of 1983 (NAD83). The data layers are being delivered in industry-standard shapefile format so they are easily accessible with GIS software products, such as ESRI's ArcView GIS and ArcExplorer. ArcExplorer is available as a free download.
