"CUTTING INTO YOUR LIBRARY COLLECTION"
A Book Preservation Exhibit
Spines damaged through misuse or carelessness
More Images Below From Sept. 27 through Oct. 17, 1999 the Holland/New Library exhibit case presents "Cutting Into Your Library Collection," an exhibit prepared by the Libraries' Preservation Working Group. This exhibit showcases damaged library materials and estimates the cost to replace them. You will see samples of WSU library books that were damaged by moisture and mold, food spills, mutilation by pets, deliberate mutilation by library users (articles razored out of journals, books, and newspapers), as well as books damaged by careless misuse. The exhibit also presents samples of damaged library CD's, videotapes, and microforms. While repairing damaged materials is expensive, many damaged library materials are out-of-print and simply cannot be replaced.
The exhibit makes it shockingly clear that we all need to take special care with library materials so they are available to be shared by present and future WSU students, faculty and researchers.
