WSU Libraries Pacific Northwest Art Collection
The WSU Libraries Pacific Northwest Art Collection is a permanent collection of artwork donated directly to the Libraries. The Collection was established by the WSU Libraries to enhance the student learning environment, to inspire students and library users, and to recognize and honor the creativity of professional artists from the Pacific Northwest region, many of whom have strong ties to Washington State University.
Art Work Acceptance Policy
In order to maintain the integrity of the WSU Libraries Pacific Northwest Art Collection as the Libraries’ permanent collection of fine art, donations of art shall be considered for acceptance by the Libraries on the basis of the following criteria:
1. All donated art must be the work of noted professional artists who have a WSU connection or who are noted regional artists from the Pacific Northwest.
2. All donated art must have recognized artistic merit and must be suitable for the area of display.
3. All donated art must be original work, hand-signed by the artist.
4. Donated pieces of two-dimensional art must be in good condition, substantial in size, and framed (or the donor must provide funds for framing). Three-dimensional sculptural pieces must be of suitable size and weight for the area of display.
5. All art donated to the collection shall be displayed in the WSU Libraries and shall not be removed from the permanent collection without approval of the Director of Libraries or designee.
6. All art donated to the collection shall be plaqued by the Libraries to commemorate the artist, the work, and the donor.
7. Any monies contributed to or accumulated for the permanent art collection shall be administered by the Director of Libraries Development and/or the Director of Libraries or designee.
8. The WSU Foundation and the Director of Libraries reserve the right to decline any donation.
9. The WSU Foundation’s gift policy regarding paintings and objects of art is as follows: An artist who donates his/her own work can receive gift credit only for the materials used (paint, brushes, plaster, frames, canvas, etc.). However, a gift club override can be manually entered for the appropriate gift club depending on fair market value (FMV). These gifts are uniquely processed and Gift Accounting can assist the Library Development Director with the process. Artwork donated by someone other than the artist will be credited at FMV.
FOR LIBRARY PERSONNEL ONLY: Required documentation to process donated artwork:
Libraries Non-Cash Gift Presentation Form, WSU Non-cash Gift Transmittal & Acknowledgment Form, donor correspondence mentioning the gift (if gift is from the artist, an itemized list with dollar amounts of materials used), artist name, certificate of the piece (if there is one), appraisal (if above $5,000), and location of the artwork.
