3.l NEPOTISM
University policy regarding the employment of close relatives within the university is outlined in the section on Employment in the WSU Faculty Manual, 1992, p. 27-28.
Members of the same family, as defined by the Faculty Manual (husband, wife, children, mother, father, mother-in-law, father-in-law), may be employed in the same department or other comparable administrative unit provided they individually meet the requirements of the positions to be filled, except in the following situations
1. When one member of a family would be responsible for making decisions in personnel matters involving the appointment, retention, or salary level for another member of the same family.
2. When one member of a family would be responsible for supervising, evaluating, or auditing the work of another member of the family.
3. When other circumstances exist which would place members of the same family in situations of actual or reasonably foreseeable conflict between the interests of the University and the interests of the family member.
Exceptions to this policy may be made if evidence is presented by the Dean [Director] that the appointment is vital to the program. Such exceptions should be documented and transmitted along with the appropriate personnel action form to the appropriate personnel office.
