LIBRARY FACULTY HANDBOOK

2.c.1.a  Procedure to Elect Library Faculty Representatives to Library Council

There are three seats on Library Council allocated to Library Faculty. A member of the Library Faculty Affairs Committee fills one of these seats for a one-year term. The other two seats are to be filled by election of the Library Faculty and are two-year terms. Library Council terms begin in July.

Elections will be held at a meeting of the Library Faculty in April. Four weeks prior to the election, a Nominating Committee, composed of one member of LFAC and two members of the Library Faculty, will call for nominations. Two weeks prior to the election, the ballot of nominees for the vacancies will be submitted to Library Faculty. There must be at least two nominees for each vacancy. Administrative library faculty who are ex-officio members of Library Council are not eligible for nomination. Members of the Nominating Committee are not eligible for nomination. All nominees to Library Council seats must agree to have their name entered on the ballot. It is the responsibility of the Nominating Committee to ensure that written approval by nominees is received prior to the ballot being finalized.

It is the responsibility of the Nominating Committee to ensure that there are appropriate numbers of nominees on the ballot to fill the faculty elected seats on Library Council. Space on the ballot will be provided for the names nominated from the floor and for write-in candidates. Absentee ballots will be accepted in advance of the meeting. A person with an appointment to the Library Faculty, whether temporary or otherwise, is considered a voting member of the faculty.

If there is an unanticipated vacancy during the year, the Nominating Committee prepares an election to fill that seat. If a faculty elected member of Library Council cannot participate in four consecutive Council meetings, LFAC should be notified of this by the LFAC member on Council and an election should be held to replace the current faculty representative.
