3.i     TYPES OF FACULTY APPOINTMENTS

 

The Library Faculty may hold either Annual or Academic appointments.  All appointments are considered on an individual basis and are subject to the approval of the unit head or the appropriate administrative officer, and the Director of Libraries.  Appointment type is subject to modification or re-negotiation.

 

The following summary of conditions of appointment for Library Faculty has been compiled from a number of sources.

Annual Appointments

176 hours per year (14 2/3 hours per month) [60.63.3]

 

Sick Leave

96 hours per year (8 hours /month) [60.63.4]; Sick leave payback policy [60.41]

 

Holidays

10 all-university holidays, plus 1 personal holiday [60.76.1]  (In the event that a certain library area is to be staffed by a librarian on an all-university holiday, the librarian scheduled to work on that day may reschedule his/her leave to be taken at another time).

 

Tenure

Consideration for tenure in the 6th year for Librarian 2's and in the 3rd year for Librarian 3's [WSU Faculty Manual, 1992, pp. 34-40]

 

Tuition benefits

Tuition waiver of up to 6 credits per semester, 4 credits/summer [WSU Faculty Manual, 1992, p. 68]

Breaks in academic

calendar

It is university practice that faculty continue to perform their duties during breaks in the academic calendar. (Sally Meyer, Faculty Personnel, Yates memo 9/1/81)

 

Tenure

Calendar

Part-time Annual or Part-time Academic Appointments

 

Part-time annual and part-time academic appointments are essentially pro-rated versions of the appointments described above, with the following exceptions:

 

Tenure

Tuition benefits

No tuition benefits [WSU Faculty Manual, 1992, p. 68]

 

Faculty Senate

Part-time faculty may not be elected to the Faculty Senate.  Part-time librarians may vote in Faculty Senate elections if they are .500 FTE or greater, on an appointment without a terminal date.  [WSU Committee Manual, 1991-92, Faculty Senate Constitution, Article II, Sec. 5.D and Sec. 6.A]
