Increasingly,
reference tools are available to WSU students via the Internet.
To
be thorough, you may still wish to consult paper resources. Here are
some relatively simple ways to access reference tools online
via the WSU Libraries:
Some of your options:
1) One place to find great reference resources is within the Oxford Online Collection. These reference resources can be found under the Article Indexes tab off the WSU Library Homepage. Just look under the letter “O” in the A-Z listing and scroll to find the Oxfords.
Fall 2009: Our collection of online encyclopedias have greatly increased to include:
Thirty online encyclopedias published by Sage (a major publisher in the areas of the Social Sciences).
In Griffin, do a keyword search on: sage encyclopedia
Limit by E-Resources (pull-down menu).
Over forty online encyclopedias published by Gale. In Griffin, do a keyword search on: gale virtual reference

2) You might find it easiest to use Griffin Catalog – you can limit your search to Reference Resources by going to the Advanced Search screen and then limiting your search by using the second pull-down menu and changing “View Entire Collection ” to "E-Books." Then simply conduct a keyword search combining your topic with the word “encyclopedia” or “dictionary.” For example you might search for “autism and encyclopedia.
3)
Search NetLibrary.
Conduct title searches on your topic and one of the reference tool
types we've learned. Before beginning your search, establish a "free
account" with NetLibrary. This will allow you to "check
out" the electronic books, and view them extensively.
NETLIBRARY

mind that NetLibrary contain many other books which are not
specifically reference books.
These, of course, may be also very valuable to your research.
A general
search on your topic in NetLibrary may yield many useful resources.
