- Students enrolled in the WSU Distance Degree Programs are able to access and receive information from a multitude of resources. Washington State University, located in Pullman, has specialized subject areas, libraries and collections to serve the students and faculty. There are over 3.5 million books, journals, documents, microforms, newspapers, indexes, and fulltext databases available for research.
- All students who are enrolled in the WSU Distance Degree Programs can receive personalized library service. Services available include internet access to databases, reference assistance, borrowing WSU-owned books and other circulating materials, and photocopies of non-circulating materials.
- Note to DDP students outside the United States: No circulating items -- books, media, etc., will be sent out of the United States. If the requested title is unavailable, please indicate whether a substitute title is acceptable Distance Degree Programs students can request assistance with research projects by filling out this form or by caling: 1-800-435-5832.

- The database NetLibrary makes available to you approximately 15,000 electronic books online. To learn how to use NetLibrary, review the NetLibrary tutorial.
Books Delivered to your Home (find out more...)
- Griffin provides you access to books from all the WSU Libraries.
It should be the first database you select to find books.
To request home delivery of a book you find in Griffin:
- Find and click on the Request Item button when you find a book you want.
- Enter your last name
- Enter your WSU Network ID
- Enter your password
- Choose a pickup location (i.e. WSU DDP DELIVERY)
- Hit the Submit above information button. (Review "Scenario 1" in the Virtual Tour for an illustration of this process.)
- Summit, or the Orbis Cascade Alliance Central Catalog, provides access to information from 25+ academic libraries in Washington and Oregon totaling over 22 million items. The Orbis Cascade Alliance is a library consortium of public and private colleges and universities in Oregon and Washington. Anyone may search the SUMMIT catalog, and authorized individuals (current students, faculty and staff of participating institutions) may borrow books from any of the libraries (except WSU Energy Library) without a borrowing fee. If you have searched Griffin and the item you want is not available at any WSU location, click on the Search SUMMIT button to look for the same item at another SUMMIT library. Use the View Your Record/ Renewals/PIN button on the initial Griffin search screen to track the status of and renew items you are borrowing.
Returning Borrowed Books (find out more...)

Pullman, WA 99164-5610 - Loaned items must be received back in the Library by the date the item is due.
Effective September 1, 2006, DDP will pay for the mailing and return shipment of books and other materials that you order from the WSU Libraries.
Your materials will be shipped by US Mail, using Priority Mail flat rate boxes. Enclosed with your items will be a return address label and Priority Mail stamps for the return postage. Once you are done with the materials, repackage them in the box, affix the labels and stamps, and drop the box off at the post office.
If the box is damaged, the post office will provide Priority Mail boxes and supplies free of charge.
If you lose the stamps, you will need to return the items yourself.
Renew Library Materials Online (find out more...)
- DDP students may now renew their library materials by accessing their circulation record.
- To Access Self Renewal:
- Go to Griffin Library Catalog
- Click on YOUR CIRCULATION RECORD Button
- Click on VIEW YOUR RECORD Button
- Enter your WSU Network ID, and password
- Click on DISPLAY RECORD... Button
- Click on the #ITEMS CURRENTLY CHECKED OUT Button
- RENEW ALL and RENEW SELECTED ITEMS Button will appear
- This will show the items that you have currently checked out
- USERS WILL BE BLOCKED FROM RENEWAL IF:
- The MAXIMUM number of renewals setting for an item has been reached
- If an OVERDUE or RECALLED notice has been issued
- NO self renewals for MMS Videos and selected reserve materials
Fines (find out more...)
- WSU Libraries Distance Degree Programs Students are subject to the same restrictions and procedures as on-campus students. Be aware that once materials (books, etc.) you have requested are checked out and mailed to you, you are responsible for these materials. Any fines or fees for anything that happens to the material (damage, misdelivered, or lost items) are your responsibility. There are very rarely any problems with the delivery of items, especially if you maintain your current and correct address within the WSU system.

- You may use your WSU ID card to checkout materials from the University of Washington libraries, and other university libraries within the state of Washington.
Delivery of Materials (find out more...)
- Library Materials will be mailed within two to three working days. Journal, magazine, and newspaper articles not otherwise available online can be delivered to your home, or to your desktop (via the Internet) by using the ILLiad system.

Books Not Owned by WSU (nor found in SUMMIT) (find out more...)
- If a book or journal article essential to your research is not owned by the WSU Libraries, you may request that the library obtain the information for you from another library via ILLiad. Only one level of service will be available to the DDP student. The cost will be $3.00 per title, which will be charged to your account for delivery of items not owned by the WSU Libraries or SUMMIT Libraries.

- Look in the A-Z list for a number of science-related encyclopedias which are available online.
- Some of our Article Indexes do not contain full-text but link to full-text articles in other databases. This is designated by the "Find It @ WSU" icon you see above. When you see this icon, you can click on it and be taken to the article you seek, or to a Griffin search, which will tell you if we own the journal the article appeared in.
- Atlases: You may think an atlas just has road maps. Wrong! :-) There are atlases on many, many topics. Try out NetLibrary and you will find items such as Atlas of Oregon Wildlife, The State Atlas of Political and Cultural Diversity, Atlas of the Pacific Northwest, Historical Atlas of the Outlaw West, and many more.

Almanacs, Yearbooks, Handbooks: You may be surprised at the useful information you can find from these types of resources. Try NetLibraryfor some online almanacs, yearbooks, and handbooks. Here are just a few examples: Nutrition Almanac, The Almanac of American Education, Plunkett's E-commerce & Internet Business Almanac 2001-2002, The Weather Almanac, and more.
