IALC students

1. What are the unique needs of this user group?

Given that these are international students coming for intensive programs in learning English, most of their unique needs are based on their levels of English language proficiency.

2. How is this group currently supported by the Libraries?

Students in the various on-campus IALC programs receive library instruction sessions. The "Better English Online" program is a grammar and conversation based curriculum and does not include research. Students in IALS short-term programs can obtain community borrower cards, but only those matriculated as WSU students receive full privileges.

3. How is this support communicated and promoted to them?

Library Instruction has regular contact with IALC.

4. Does this group have an official liaison from the Libraries?

Yes, Jane Scales is the liaison.

5. What problems does this group have with accessing library services?

There have been reports of some IALC students needing or wanting services such as Request Item that they apparently are not provided until/if they become regular WSU students. IALC students cannot access databases from off campus because they are only "community users."
