Papers, 1933-1966
The papers of John C. Snyder were donated by Mrs. Snyder to the Washington State University Libraries in May and October 1977 (77-19). Pat Graham Pidcock processed the papers in June 1978.
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCH
A native of Beaver City, Nebraska, John C. Snyder received his B.S. in 1929 from Ohio State. He continued his education at Iowa State receiving an M.S. in 1930 and a Ph.D. in 1932. Beginning at Washington State University in 1934 as a horticultural specialist, Dr. Snyder served in that capacity for over thirty years before his retirement in 1965. In November 1967 at the age of 67, Dr. Snyder succumbed to a heart attack. Throughout his career Dr. Snyder was an active member and officer in the Washington Horticulture Association. Dr. Snyder published many articles in popular farm and garden journals as well as writing several horticulture publications for home and industry.
DESCRIPTION AND ARRANGEMENT
The papers of John C. Snyder represent his horticulture expertise in literary form. The first series contains correspondence between Dr. Snyder and the editors of journals that published his manuscripts. The folders are arranged alphabetically by journal title.
The second series covers a broad spectrum of horticultural topics researched by the author. Published bulletins, memoranda from fellow horticulturalists, photographs, as well as Dr. Snyder's earlier research data are included. The third series is comprised of manuscripts and publications prepared by Dr. Snyder in addition to scattered research materials. The folders of the last two series are arranged alphabetically by topic.
