The records of the A.S.W.S.U. Activities Center were transferred to the University Archives, Washington State University Libraries, in May 1981 (UA 81-14). They were processed in May and June 1983 by Ann M. Klavano.

ORGANIZATIONAL HISTORY

The A.S.W.S.U. Activities Center was established in the spring of 1947. The goal of the center was to enable a joint student-faculty coordination and participation in student and campus life, augmented by a staff of professionals. As student's living arrangements have become more decentralized and with the abolition of the class government system in 1968, the importance of the Activities Center as an organizing body has increased. It has become more of a joint effort on the part of students and administrators who specialize in campus student activities. For further information see: Archives 17, Records of the A.S.W.S.U. ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION

The records of the Student Activities Center are arranged in a single alphabetical subject series. The dates are by academic year, not calendar year. Original folder titles have been retained.

The records contain reports by committee chairmen and advisers, minutes, memoranda, correspondence, contracts, promotional material and financial records. While most of the records deal with A.S.W.S.U. Committees, some are WSU committees with a student or one of the Activity Center staff as member. During the time span covered in the records, there were two name changes. Before 1960, the Student--Community Relations Committee was called the Community Relations Committee. The Associated Students of Washington State University (A.S.W.S.U.) was the Associated Students of the State College of Washington (A.S.S.C.W.) prior to 1959 when the university's name was changed.
