Commission on the Status of Women
Records, 1973 -- 1991
Records of the Washington State University Commission on the Status on Women have been transferred to the University Libraries on several occasions. Initial records were acquired in 1976 and 1977 (UA76-6 and UA77-35); these were processed and maintained as Archives 6 and Archives 32 until 1991. In that year, a third accession (UA91-19) was received and the three bodies of records were combined.
HISTORY OF COMMISSION
The Commission on the Status of Women was organized in 1973 for the purpose of gathering data and making recommendations regarding matters concerning women at all levels in the Washington State University community. Directly responsible to the President of the University, the Commission included eleven faculty and staff women, six students, the Director of the Women's Studies Program and the Director of the Office of Programs for Women, as well as representatives from the Office of Student Affairs, Affirmative Action Office, Associated Women Students, Associated Students, and Classified Staff Association.
ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION
Records of the Commission consist of correspondence, minutes, reports of studies, subject files, and proposals.
Arrangement follows the office procedures of the Commission, and also reflects the accruing accessions of records by the Archives. The major body of the records is material transferred in 1991. Some of the subject files are records that were transferred in 1977. The reports and proposals that form the last numbered series are the materials transferred in 1976.
