Papers, 1938 - 1979
Papers of Paul Beckett were recieved by the Washington State University
Libraries on two occassions (accession numbers UA78-08 and MS85-44
One group of papers --UA87-08-- was incorrectly identified as
university records at the time of receipt.) The two accessions
were combined, and the papers arranged and described in October,
1988, by Harvey Young.
BIOGRAPHY
Paul Louis Beckett, Professor of Political Science at Washington State University from 1947 to 1977, was born October 18, 1913, at Warren County, Illinois. He completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1935 at Monmouth College, a Master of Arts at the University of Illinois in 1938, and a Doctor of Philosophy at the University of California at Los Angeles in 1949. Beckett was employed in municipal government in Los Angeles during the early 1940s, and also worked in a war-time administrative agency in Washington D.C. From 1945 to 1947 he was on the faculty of the University of New Mexico, and in 1947 he began his employment with the Political Science faculty of Washington State College.
ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION
The papers of Paul Beckett consist of correspondence, reports, draft writings, and enclosures concerned with research and teaching of political science. The papers have been only slightly rearranged from Beckett's original filing system. The current arrangement has the papers in two series, Correspondence files and Subject files. The former are in order of chronology, while the latter are alphabetical.
