Pacific Northwest Pollution Control Association
Records, 1974-1977
The records of the Pacific Northwest Pollution Control Association were donated to the Washington State University Libraries by Dr. William Funk, newsletter editor, in February, 1979 (MS 79-05), and were processed in June 1982 by Andrew J. Gregg.
ASSOCIATION HISTORY
The Pacific Northwest Pollution Control Association, originally the Northwest Conference on Stream Pollution, held its first annual meeting in Lewiston, Idaho, on May 15, 1935. The name of the Conference was changed to Pacific Northwest Pollution Control Association in 1959. The records of the Association from 1946 to 1976 were deposited in the Washington State University Libraries in 1977 and 1978 and were arranged and described in 1978 as Cage 349. The inventory for that group includes an extensive historical sketch. Further records of the Pacific Northwest Pollution Control Association were processed and added as an extension (see Cage 465a) to this collection in 1995.
ARRANGEMENT AND DESCRIPTION
The Pacific Northwest Pollution Control Association's 1974-1977 records are arranged in three series with appropriate sub-series. Series 1 consists of a single document, the 1977 Operating Manual. Series 2, which represents the bulk of the collection, is the Association's General Office Files for the years 1974-1977. This series is divided into a pair of sub-series. The first sub-series is comprised of the 1974-1976 files, while the second sub-series consists of the files from 1977. Series 3 is composed of the Annual Meeting Reports of 1974 and 1975.
The 1974-1977 records of the Pacific Northwest Pollution Control Association include office files, operation manuals, and records of annual meetings. The collection bulks largest from 1976-1977. The office files reflect the wide variety of correspondence, memoranda, and business records of the Association's daily operation. The correspondence includes letters to and from Association members and colleagues in industry, goverment, and the private sector. The collection contains administrative materials pertaining to committee work, public relations, research, conventions, meetings, directors, personnel, and the Water Pollution Control Federation. The third series, Annual Meeting Reports from 1974 and 1975, details the Association's conventions for those years. Those reports include agendas, workshops, panel discussions, lectures, addresses, and field trips in which delegates participated.
